Should i learn html to create my own web sites?

i am running a small business in india... i want to create my own website..... i have 4 doubts.. please be patient to clear it all... your help is very urgently needed.. please help..(1).for that should i know HTML? or can i use other websites like googlepages or goecities or something like that for preparing my own webpages without the use of HTML program?


(2).For the usage of GIF animations and inserting applets and sounds and background colors should i use HTML programming or simply use the option in the websites mentioned above to upload sounds and images and colors?


(3).Then say me if there is any way to create domain names for free and hosting for free.


(4).Also please do let me know how spam messages are sent to all..actually where do the spammers get the e-mail ID%26#039;s?

Reply:I think if it is your first time creating websites then you should begin with Geocities or googlepages





1) learning html is not a big deal if you are a student / still in the learning process. If you learn by yourself or go to an institute , expect at least one month of time before you can do something useful


2) GIF animations can be done easily using a gif animator


- inserting applets is also simple if you know html


3) You can not get a domain name for free. The advertized free domain names require you to purchase a web hosting package. However if you buy a domain name, it is possible to host it on a free server, but they will put some banner ads on your website.


4) spammers can collect email IDs from other spammers. They sell the databases of email addresses to each other. However it is not something that should worry you, as you can always block the spam that comes your way
Reply:You can use google pages for very simple web sites. Otherwise you can consider using some blogging software like blogger.com, wordpress.com, wordpress.org(if you host on your own).


I dont know any options of free domain names. There are some free hosting sites, but they will put ads and your domain name won%26#039;t look professional.
Reply:HTML is the basic language of the web so if you are doing websites it is an absolute MUST. Even if you use one of the tools like google pages it is usefull to know what is going on. The good news is that learning it can be done in several hours at www.w3schools.com and there are tutorials that will give you an introduction to almost any other web technology that interests you. Putting graphics and gif animations is very simple with HTML. I strongly suggest you learn CSS at W3schools as well because this will give you even more control of your site. As to spam there are almost as many ways to get addresses as there are advertisers methods go from hacking into databases to purchasing them from Banks and other corporations. Some will offer some small service for free and ask for registration and sell or use the information they get. Some times the hacker finds a big domain like sbcglobal.net and just sends emails randomly generated 6 to 8 charachter combinations expecting many bounces but also some hits. Protecting yourself completley I don%26#039;t think is possible but there is some filtering software that provides some protection.

If you just want to put up some information and pictures to advertise your business in India, you may find that the templates and wizards that are offered by the free places like geo cities is enough for you and you won%26#039;t need to learn html. You can get this sort of thing for free, mostly the hosting company will put advertising on it to recover costs. Geocities have some cool addons for free like guestbooks and counters.





If you intend doing a lot more, like offering database stuff, forms etc then you may need to learn html or use a program like front page to create your programs and forms.


If you want this type of thing to be hosted somewhere you will generally have to pay.





Some places will charge a small monthly fee to host your website and include a domain name in the price. Other places will sell you a domain name and re-direct it to another site, (eg. yahoo or google) so you can pay a small fee for your domain name but still have it hosted for free.





There are some sites that do host blogs etc for free and don%26#039;t put advertising on it, eg. http://iblog.net.au





You can set up a free website then upgrade it at some places, or move it when you are ready to spend some money.





It is generally worth spending a bit of money for www advertising though, as it is one of the cheapest forms of advertising.

coz u also need java, graphics, maybe flash also c , C++ may be a SSL..........

Reply:If you are serious about websites either for personal or your business, don%26#039;t go to free web hosting as they are usually not reliable and you may end up losing all your hard work. Free web hosts usually put advertisements on your websites and it could be annoying.





If you like to create websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website, I got more than 100 websites in about 6 months%26#039; time), go for multiple web hosting services where you could host all your websites in one account.
